Hair Conditioner

coconut-oil-for-hairMy hair has this concoction in it right now. It claims to remove build up from products, clogged pores, and dandruff. Well, I am an ardent champion of the no-shampoo group, so I won’t have any products to wash out. I don’t have any dandruff. Not sure if I have any clogged pores.

But, I do know that tea tree oil and rosemary are good for dandruff. And Coconut oil and olive are good conditioners. My hands are super dry due to the cold weather – so maybe my scalp is too. I have all the ingredients, so I figured “why not”?

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup of coconut oil
  • 1 teaspoon olive oil (I would only add this if your hair is very dry. Read notes below)
  • 2 drops melaleuca (tea tree oil)
  • 2 drops rosemary

Instructions

  • Mix it all together and apply to dry hair with your fingers or comb. I just bent over the sink and mushed it into my hair like I do my henna.
  • You can cover your head with a towel or shower cap to keep the moisture in if you want. I didn’t bother.
  • Let it sit for 15 minutes.
  • Now shampoo and condition.

First Impressions: Hmmmm…

My hair is still wet. I always think of my hair as being oily – but since I stopped using products and wash with my no-poo method – it never gets oily. Do NOT add the olive oil unless you have some massively dry hair. I had to resort to washing it twice with a bit of Dr. Bronner’s soap to get it out of my hair. And, I can still feel it in there. I’ll let you know what it’s like when it dries. Also, all that oil gets in the bottom of the shower and makes it slippery! So, it could be considered a safety hazard. LOL. So, this should probably be a sink-only project since I just got done scrubbing the bottom of the shower so I don’t kill the next guy.

Second Impressions: Pissed

Hair is pretty dry but still feels oily and wet. Oil is still coming out. I think I will have to resort to extra baking soda or possibly actual detergent shampoo. Not happy. Again, I think if I’d skipped the olive oil, it would have been fine. But, right now, I look like an oil slick even after two rounds of soap.

When I was talking to Beth, I was telling her that you did the baking soda thing, and she said that you were a “No-Poo.” When she said it, I didn’t know what she was saying, and it sounded like Poo and as in *poo* … “poo poo,” (lol) and I thought, “Hmm. Weird, okay.” But I moved on with the conversation. But then she said it again. And another time as she started talker about her No Poo research and that there’s apparently a website dedicated to No Poo.

But still … No Poo kinda cracks me up.

Yep. That’s how we say it. LOL. Poo-free (as in Shampoo-free) or No-poo. Not to be confused with free-poo. No one wants that.
